Prof Dr Christian Mehl — World-Renowned Prosthodontist & Implant Surgeon
About me
With more than 25 years at the forefront of prosthodontics, implantology and full-mouth rehabilitation, I bring together rigorous scientific practice, global teaching and highly personalised care.
My philosophy is that every patient deserves outstanding results — delivered with empathy, clarity and trust.
Publications & Research Expertise
My clinical work is underpinned by a long-standing commitment to academic research and scientific publication. I have authored and co-authored more than 70 peer-reviewed papers in national and international journals, with a focus on implant dentistry, prosthodontics, bone augmentation and complex oral rehabilitation. My research addresses both biological and clinical challenges, including implant stability, tissue behaviour and long-term restorative outcomes, with a strong emphasis on evidence-based practice.
Alongside publishing original research and clinical studies, I regularly review scientific articles for leading dental journals and contribute to academic discourse through invited lectures and collaborations. I believe that high-quality research is essential for advancing patient care, refining clinical techniques and shaping the future of modern dentistry.

Award-winning Dental Implantologist
My scientific work in dental implantology has been recognised on several occasions, both personally and through the achievements of my students. I place great value on mentoring young researchers and supporting rigorous, clinically relevant research, and it has been particularly rewarding to see this work acknowledged within the academic community.
In 2013, research supervised within my department was awarded the Scientific Conference Prize by the Schleswig-Holstein Society for Dental, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, recognising the doctoral work of my PhD student, Dr Afrouz.
The following year, I was honoured to receive the Camlog Research Award in Valencia, Spain, an international recognition for scientific contribution in implant dentistry.
In 2019, I was appointed Extraordinary Professor at the Christian-Albrechts-University of Kiel, reflecting sustained academic contribution in research, teaching and clinical innovation.

Industry recognition
My international expertise in prosthodontics sets me apart as both a practising clinician and a recognised academic. Trained in Germany and the UK, I combine world-class scientific research with hands-on clinical mastery, giving patients access to the very latest techniques in reconstructive dentistry. With more than two decades of experience, I am often trusted with the most complex, life-changing cases – from rebuilding smiles destroyed by grinding to restoring full function after trauma or severe tooth loss.
As a prosthodontist, I design treatment plans that are not only highly aesthetic but also meticulously structured to last for decades. I collaborate with leading colleagues across orthodontics, periodontics and endodontics to deliver care at the highest standard. This joined-up approach means my patients benefit from a smooth, confidence-building journey and results that consistently set the benchmark for durability, function and natural beauty.

FAQs
What makes your approach to dentistry unique?
I combine evidence-based techniques with a calm, empathetic manner. Every plan is tailored not just to clinical needs but also to the patient’s comfort, confidence and long-term wellbeing.
Do you work with a team or independently?
I work closely with a trusted team of orthodontists, periodontists, endodontists and master technicians. This collaborative approach ensures each patient benefits from a truly comprehensive and coordinated plan.
What kind of cases do you find most rewarding?
The most rewarding cases are those where patients believe there is no hope. Restoring function and confidence for someone who thought their situation was impossible is one of the most fulfilling aspects of my work.
Do you only treat complex cases?
Not at all. While I am often sought out for challenging reconstructions and advanced implant work, I also treat patients who want straightforward improvements in function or aesthetics. Every case, big or small, is treated with the same care.
What role does your academic work play in patient care?
My ongoing research and lecturing keep me at the forefront of innovation. Patients benefit directly, as the latest evidence and techniques are integrated into everyday practice.
What inspired you to become a dentist?
I was always fascinated by the combination of science, precision and artistry in dentistry. The ability to transform not just smiles but also people’s confidence made it the perfect career for me.
What has been a career highlight for you so far?
Being appointed as a professor and contributing over 70 peer-reviewed publications has been an honour, but the true highlight will always be the life-changing results I achieve for patients.
